Hawaii Center for Regenerative Medicine

Offering a Rejuvenating and Healing Facial Transformation

Dr. Liza Maniquis-Smigel, M.D., is certified to offer the facial rejuvenation process “The Vampire Facial,” which was patented in 2010 and has been used among movie stars and people in public life to keep their youthful glow. The name was coined because the myth is that vampires never age, and because the process uses platelet rich plasma (PRP), a blood product, to combat signs of aging. This is an innovative application of PRP treatments, which have been used to accelerate healing of wounds and to help in injury recovery for about 20 years.

We’ve all seen examples of changes in skin from aging, such as the gray cast due to decreased blood flow; the fine vertical lines around the mouth; and the worn, tired or droopy look when the skin texture becomes less smooth. The Vampire Facial has been shown to alleviate these symptoms, and even improve skin scarred by trauma, acne or chicken pox.

A person’s own PRP is obtained by extracting a small amount (about a couple of teaspoons) of their blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the plasma (the fluid part) from the red and white blood cells. The plasma, which contains a high concentration of growth factors, is then injected into the face using a micro-needling device. This creates a stimulus for tightening and rejuvenation of the collagen of the face. The face is then covered with the growth factors so that they soak into the tissue. This is designed to prompt the skin to tighten and glow with color, soften scars and provide a beautiful younger and natural result.

Anyone interested in learning more about the Vampire Facial can contact Dr. Liza Smigel at either her Hilo or Honolulu office.
