Advanced Technology for Implant Placement
Offered by Dr. Dennis Nagata, DDS
There are times when a tooth cannot be repaired and needs to be extracted. Because our mouths are designed to have the full support of all our teeth, a missing tooth poses a threat to the underlying gum and puts the bone at risk of deterioration. With an implant, a small titanium post is positioned in the gum to mimic the root to prevent bone loss. This post also provides the support for a custom-made crown which retains the space of the adjacent teeth. Implants restore form and function like a natural tooth, stabilize the jaw bone and allow for natural chewing.
The placement of an implant comes with several challenges since the bone they are placed in is often narrow with critical underlying structures. The implant must also be positioned and angled just right to provide support and to be esthetically and functionally effective. Recent developments in dental technology utilizing Cone-Beam Computed Tomography imaging are greatly improving the placement of implants.
Dr. Dennis Nagata, of the Landmark Dental Group, utilizes the x-NAV Implant Surgical System with turn-by-turn guidance along the surgical path. This is similar to the way medical neurosurgery has been done for many years. The x-NAV system uses advanced technology that enables the surgeon to make the most precise adjustments within the surrounding structures with greater accuracy for a better outcome. The optical triangulation tracking utilizes a specialized radiation-free camera to obtain a 3D view of the mouth’s anatomy, including soft tissue and surrounding teeth. This enables the dentist to improve the precision and accuracy of an implant’s position, angle and depth. Implants using the x-NAV system also have smaller incisions which means less pain and faster recovery.
Anyone interested in how an implant done with the x-NAV system will benefit them can contact Dr. Dennis Nagata for an evaluation.
