What’s the Buzz About CBD?
Everyone’s Talking About it, but What Is It? CBD 101
Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is a compound extracted from the hemp or cannabis plant. CBD has some wonderful health benefits, including its anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant and antioxidant properties.
Will CBD get me high? CBD is the non-psychoactive compound in the hemp plant. The psychoactive compound is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). CBD does not get you “high.” It’s completely safe, legal and can be taken by everyone of any age, including animals.
Why is CBD so effective and efficient in treating our health conditions? The reason is because the human body has its own endocannabinoid system! Our cells have CBD receptors. The human body produces certain cannabinoids on its own. It has two receptors for cannabinoids, called CB1 and CB2. When we take CBD from the plant source, it enhances and increases our own internal CBD.
CB1 receptors are found all around the body, but many of them are in the brain. The brain receptors deal with coordination, movement, pain, emotions, mood, thinking, appetite, memories and motivation. CB2 receptors are more common in the immune system. They deal with inflammation and pain.
When we take CBD, all the systems in our body can work more effectively. This is the reason why taking a natural hemp CBD supplement is so effective for our health and well-being.
CBD acts as a natural pain killer. Studies suggest that through its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, CBD can be beneficial for those suffering from migraines, back pain, fibromyalgia, arthritis, and muscle and joint pain.
Thanks to its antioxidant effects, CBD acts as a natural neuroprotective agent that reduces oxidative stress and prevents neurodegeneration. It is effective for treating such conditions as Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis and gastric ulcers, as well as central nervous system disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease.
CBD is also an anticonvulsant and is effective for treating seizures, epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease.
Hemp is a leafy green – choose organically grown! As hemp/CBD products become more widely available in the U.S., it’s a good idea to find out the conditions in which the plant is grown. Hemp is a natural soil detoxifier, meaning it pulls out toxins, pollutants, pesticides, and even radiation from the soil it’s grown in. (Hemp was used at Chernobyl to help clean up the mess!) If you are taking a hemp product for health benefits, it would be wise to use a certified organically grown, non-GMO product.
Soraya Faris Applegate first began using hemp oil in April, specifically for acute back pain, but found over the three months she has been taking it that she experienced way more than a reduction in back pain. Soraya was diagnosed eight years ago with fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis and has lived with the associated daily muscle/joint aches and pains, tiredness, etc. Since taking a nutritional hemp supplement, Soraya has felt pain-free for the first time in eight years! She also has increased energy and motivation and an overall feeling of enhanced well-being. Soraya is now a passionate advocate for the revival of the use of this sacred healing plant.
