Hawaii Center for Natural Healing: Focusing on the Whole Person

Hawaii Natural Healing Center, with two convenient locations in Kailua and Honolulu, offers a wide array of natural health services. Dr. Allison Gandre founded the center to help patients heal and maintain a healthy life. She believes naturopathic medicine is the most logical and humanistic approach to primary health care. She approaches each patient’s unique set of circumstances with time and consideration, and offers health care that emphasizes prevention, treatment and optimal health.

Dr. Gandre received her premedical science degree in nutrition from the University of Texas, in Austin, with additional coursework in exercise physiology, human performance research, and advanced sports nutrition. She then earned her doctorate from Bastyr University, an internationally renowned integrative naturopathic medical school in Seattle, Washington. She maintains membership in the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the Hawaii Society for Naturopathic Physicians, the California Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and the Endocrinology Association of Naturopathic Physicians.

Naturopathic physician training includes naturopathic principles, nutritional therapeutics, botanical medicine, homeopathy and physical medicine, as well as the typical array of medical school subjects like pharmacology, physical diagnosis, lab interpretation, and minor surgery.

When a patient schedules their first visit, they can expect a comprehensive appointment that lasts approximately 60 to 90 minutes. The focus will be on taking a complete history and completing a physical exam. If needed, lab tests or imaging may be ordered. The patient can expect to leave with a treatment plan that is tailored to their personal health goals. Subsequent visits are scheduled as needed to discuss lab results, assess progress, and determine any additional steps. These visits range from 30 to 60 minutes.

In addition to primary care naturopathic medicine, Dr. Gandre specializes in the following treatments:

Bioidentical Hormone Therapy for Women – Offering the exact same molecular structure as hormones produced in our bodies, bioidentical hormones can be naturally utilized in our bodies. Dr. Gandre provides a comprehensive treatment plan that includes dietary protocols, lifestyle changes, herbal medicine, and bioidentical hormone therapy to treat hormone imbalance and perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms.

Integrative Oncology – Dr. Gandre’s patients that have a cancer diagnosis can trust her to be up to date on the many alternative treatments and complementary therapies available. Dr. Gandre cares about the well-being of her patients and offers preventive interventions that can reduce the risk of chemotherapy side effects—like cardiotoxicity, peripheral neuropathy, and mucositis—without reducing the efficacy of treatment.

Intravenous (IV) Therapy – The benefit of IV therapy is that nutrients bypass the digestive system and go directly where needed. People suffering from chronic fatigue, pain, frequent colds, headaches or general malaise may also have an issue with nutrient assimilation. Some conditions that benefit from IV therapy include acute infection and wound healing, pre- and post-surgery care, and macular degeneration.

Perineural Therapy for Pain – Also known as neural prolotherapy, this is a ground-breaking treatment option for pain and musculoskeletal injuries, including tendonitis, osteoarthritis, peripheral neuropathy, chronic regional pain syndrome, migraines, frozen shoulder, and other pain conditions. Neural prolotherapy works through subcutaneous injections of a dextrose (sugar) solution in sterile water along the nerve associated with pain.
