Aloha Palo Santo was created by Luis Meza Cuadra and Liubov Ayloyan in honor of their Hawaii born son, Kailash. It’s out of their respect and love for Hawaii that they want to introduce everyone to Palo Santo, the mystical tree from South America. In Spanish, Palo Santo means “Holy Wood.” It’s one of the most fragrant woods in the world and is related to frankincense, myrrh and copal. It has a sweet and citric fragrance that helps to reduce stress and anxiety, enhance clarity and concentration, and restore balance. Its uplifting scent helps with meditation, enhances creativity and promotes positive feelings of joy. Overall, Palo Santo helps provide a deeper feeling of being grounded and connected to all creation.

Luis and Liubov have a long-term relationship with the artisans of Peru that hand craft powerful and beautiful jewelry from sustainably harvested Palo Santo wood. Living trees are not cut to create the Palo Santo products, only fallen branches and deceased trees are used. It’s only after the natural aging process occurs that the wood acquires the beneficial components that are found in the tree. The wood is used to create jewelry and burning sticks (incense), and is vapor distilled to obtain its essential oil.

Used in energetic cleansing and healing, Palo Santo has been used for a millennium by priests and homeopaths in South America. Shamans, medicinal people of the Incas, and the indigenous people of the Andes would burn Palo Santo wood as incense for spiritual purifying, energy clearing and healing. It’s believed that the smoke has medicinal and therapeutic healing power.

Some of the many uses and benefits of Palo Santo that have been reported are:

Relaxer and De-Stressor: Inhaling the scent of Palo Santo helps turn on the body’s relaxation response and reduces anxiety and insomnia. Wearing the jewelry or placing several drops of the essential oil (in a carrier oil such as coconut oil) and applying it to the head, neck, chest or spine helps to reduce stress. It can be used to aid in falling asleep.

Joint and Muscle Pain Reducer: Applying several drops of Palo Santo oil to the point of pain can help reduce the discomfort of arthritis, injuries, chronic neck or back pain, and sore muscles.

Headache Treatment: People have reported that exposure to Palo Santo can relieve migraines and stress-related headaches. It has been shown to lower inflammation and increase blood flow that can help turn off perceived pain.

Cold or Flu Treatment: Palo Santo is known to fight infections and viruses that can cause a cold or the flu. It improves blood circulation and recharges energy levels to help people feel better faster and stop the severity of symptoms such as dizziness, congestion and nausea.

Bug and Mosquito Repellent: Burning Palo Santo wood has been historically used as a way to repel bugs. Combining the oil with water and spraying on clothes is also effective.
