Chinese New Year begins on the new moon of February 5 and heralds in the year of the Pig. The animal designations of the Chinese zodiac originated in the Han Dynasty (202BC-220AD) and follow a 12-year cycle. The animal signs are based on the animal’s character and are always used in the same sequence. The pig (or boar) is the last of the 12 zodiac animals and brings with it a more relaxed and happy year for us all.
Chinese animal signs are also segmented into elemental signs and are either Yin or Yang in nature. The Pig is an Earth Yin year. Because Yin is feminine (with watery aspects) and Earth is stable, nourishing and fertile, we should expect a more nourishing, flowing and relaxing year.
If you were born in the Year of the Pig: 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007 or 2019, this is your year! Key words to describe the pig are optimistic, peaceful, sensitive, generous, sensuous, intelligent, indulgent, caring, trusting, forgiving and FUN!
This year is predicted to be more peaceful and harmonious. People will be more interested in the good life and fellowship than competition and conflict (as experienced in 2018, The Year of the Dog—Donald Trump is a Fire Dog zodiac sign). We can expect that 2019 will bring more global as well as inner peace.
This is a year to enjoy feelings of contentment and satisfaction. However, as might be expected, the pigs’ indulgent lifestyle can lead to a few problems, the main ones being over spending and over eating.
