Soulistic Holistics Hawaii

Getting to the Root of the Problem, Not Just Treating Symptoms

Soraya Faris Applegate is a licensed acupuncturist/herbalist and yoga teacher, and the owner of Soulistic Holistics Hawaii with a clinic on the Windward Side of Oahu. When people visit her for the first time, they often don’t know what to expect since the treatment is very different from what they might experience with traditional western medicine. Here’s what the experience includes.

Time to Talk—No Rush!

Soraya spends about 90 minutes with each patient during their first visit. This provides plenty of time to get to know each other. There’s an opportunity to discuss the patient’s medical history in depth along with emotional states, diet and lifestyle, and of course, the main concern prompting the appointment.

Soraya takes into account everything shared with her, but she also uses some traditional Chinese medical diagnostic techniques as well.

Stick Out Your Tongue—Please!

The first thing Soraya asks every patient to do is stick out their tongue. It provides a wealth of information about the state of an individual’s health, organs, energy, blood, digestive system and stress levels. Soraya also provides a lesson in how a patient can read their own tongue using a mirror.

Taking your Pulses—All 29 of Them!

Soraya then takes pulses. It might appear at first that she is simply taking the heart pulse, but she is listening to every organ in the body, not just the heart. By pressing with different firmness, she can tell what is really going on with overall health.

A normal pulse reflects good heart Qi and blood. It should be calm, smooth, soft (but not too soft), and not slow, rapid, rough or hard. It should be regular and its quality should not change very often or easily.

Treatment Methods—Acupuncture, Cupping, Herbs

Once Soraya has made a thorough diagnosis of the patient’s condition, she will choose the best treatment option, which will likely include acupuncture, cupping and herbs. Soraya is also a sound healer and treatments often include tuning forks, gong, and crystal bowls. Soraya will discuss the best treatment plan, which might include weekly treatments for a while that last about an hour each.

Using this detailed diagnosis system, Soraya can find out and treat the root cause of a health problem, as well as treat its current symptoms. For a detailed description of the different modalities she uses, visit SoulisticHolisticsHawaii.com.
