October - Soul Shop Hawaii 2019 - Youth Leaders
Soul Shop Hawai'i 2019: Ministering to Suicidal Desperation is a 3-hour training to equip youth leaders, community leaders, clergy, faith and lay leaders, counselors, first responders, and essentially anyone interested in learning how to effectively minister to suicidal desperation to adolescents and teens.
Soul Shop is a national movement focused on helping communities develop skills for the prevention of suicide. Soul Shop has conducted hundreds of workshops throughout the United States and was hosted in Hawai'i in 2016 for community, church, and temple leaders of all denominations. Suicidal desperation is complex and often involves a spiritual crisis, as well as emotional distress. It is difficult for those contemplating suicide to ask for help, and that is why Soul Shop has developed techniques for recognizing people who are hurting and helping them to be heard through life-saving conversations. For Youth Leaders:
On Friday, October 18, 2019, 6 pm to 9 pm, there is a 3-hour Youth Leaders workshop. You will learn how to recognize warning signs; how to engage in life-saving conversations; and how to keep youth safe. Special attention is focused on youth-specific issues of impulsivity, suicide contagion, and confidentiality. Includes light refreshments. Register today -- enrollment is limited!
